Dial-Up Networking Configuration
This tutorial will help you install Dial-Up Networking on Windows 98 computers. In order to follow the steps in this procedure, you will require your Windows 98 CD. Follow the preceding steps to install Dial-Up Networking on your Windows computer:
- Click on the Start Menu, then click Settings, then click Control Panel. When you are in the control panel, double click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- In the Add/Remove Programs dialog, click on the Windows Setup tab, then click Communications, and then click on the Details... button.
- In the Communications dialog, click the checkbox beside Dial-Up Networking, then click the OK button.
- When you return to the Add/Remove Programs dialog, click the OK button. At this point, Windows may prompt you to insert the CD. Insert the Windows 98 CD into your CD-ROM drive. Windows will then prompt you to restart your computer. Allow the system to shut down, and then start Windows again.
- When Windows restarts, double click the My Computer icon, then double click the Dial-Up Networking icon. At this point, Windows will guide you through the Dial-Up Networking wizard. If Windows asks you to
set your modem, do so by following our Windows 95/98 Modem Setup Guide. Otherwise, a dialog will appear. Enter Mondenet as the name for the connection, then click the Next button.
- In the next dialog, enter 613 as the Area Code. Then enter 526-2828 in the Telephone Number field. You should also set the Country Code to Canada. After you have done this, click the Next button.
- At this point, Windows will congratulate you on setting up your connection. Click the Finish button to proceed.
- From the Dial-Up Networking folder, right click on the Mondenet icon, then left click on Properties.
- Click on the General tab, uncheck the Use country code and area code checkbox. Then click on the Server Types tab.
- Make sure the Type of Dial-Up Server is set to PPP: Windows 95, Windows NT 3.5, Internet. Also, uncheck the Log on to network checkbox and make sure Enable software compression is checked. Also, uncheck all network protocols except TCP/IP. Then click on the TCP/IP Settings... button.
- Click the Server
assigned IP address button. Click the Specify name server addresses and then enter 206.191.48.2 as the Primary DNS and 206.191.48.3 as the Secondary DNS. WINS fields to not need to be entered. Also, check the Use IP header compression and Use default gateway on remote network checkboxes. Then click the OK button.
- Click the OK button the on Mondenet dialog box and you are done!
- To dial in to Mondenet, double click the Mondenet icon in the Dial-Up Networking folder. Enter your user name (the first part of your e-mail address) in the User Name field, and the password supplied to you in the Password field. You may also check Save Password to avoid having to re-enter your password every time you connect. Click the Connect button to connect to Mondenet.
- Your modem will then begin dialing into Mondenet. After you have been authenticated, you should see two green lights beside the time at the bottom of your screen.
- Congratulations! You have now setup your computer to use Dial-Up Networking to connect to Mondenet!
