Configuring the Shiva Dialler
The Shiva Dialler is included with Netscape Personal Edition and with Internet Explorer
for Windows 3.1. Certain Shiva versions have slight differences. You can launch Shiva by double-clicking on its Internet Dialler icon.
- Here you enter your username/password and the phone number you are dialing.
- Click the Properties button, to check settings:
- Start with the Locations tab:
- Enter the information for your location, the phone #, and any special information for your phone line (such as Call Waiting, dial "9" in an office or hotel.)
- Click on the General tab:
- Here you can personalize how your connection works, such as:
- automatically starting Netscape when you connect
- setting an idle timeout after a period of inactivity.
- It also contains information on how to login, or to invoke a manual login terminal.
- Click the Modem tab:
- Here are some of the modem settings.
- The modem can be redetected by clicking on Change Modem.
- In all Shiva versions the only way to change the init string is to edit
the modems2.ini file located in either c:\netscape\dialler or c:\iexplore (depending on the version used).
- Click on is Service Provider (in the newer version of Shiva: TCP/IP).
- Enter Mondenet specific settings here:
- Domain Name Server (DNS) addresses (206.191.48.2 and 206.191.48.3)
- the Domain Name (mondenet.com).
- Click OK to Exit properties.
- Click Dial to Connect.
