Configuring Microsoft Outlook 97
Microsoft Outlook 97 is a very common email client, which comes with Microsoft Office 97. Outlook integrates a Calendar, an advanced Address Book, Task Lists, attached Journals, etc. All of these additional options interact with the email client, these additional components are for the individual to tailor to their own preferences.
This is the main Outlook 97 window:

It is a standard email window, with Inbox, Outbox, etc. situated on the left panel by default, with of course other items that we are not concerned with. You can customize your view and move things all around, so be aware of what you've changed around, if you ever need tech help.
  • To create a new account in Outlook click on Tools and then Services:
  • If you do not have Internet Mail listed:
    • Click the Add button:
    • Select Internet E-mail, and then OK:
  • Otherwise you can modify settings by clicking on Tools, Services, Properties of Internet Mail.
    • There is standard information, such as Name, Organization, E-mail Address and Reply Address.
    • Click on the Servers tab
      • Enter the Outgoing Mail (SMTP), Incoming Mail (POP3), Account Name, and your Password if you wish to have it saved
      • Ensure that Logon Using Secure Password Authentication is not checked.
    • Click the Connection tab
      • Specify the Dial-Up Networking connection you are using to connect to Mondenet
      • You also have the option of having Outlook automatically disconnect the connection after sending and receiving.
      • Click OK and the account will be added to the list.
If you make more and more accounts, the chances of errors occurring is increased. Email can be checked individually rather than all at once, so you can tell which server is having the problem.
  • To get new mail, click on Tools, and Check for New Mail On... (rather than Tools, Check for New Mail):
Composing an email message is also quite easy
  • Click on Compose, then New Mail Message to open the composition window
    • Enter the addressees
    • Enter a Subject for the note.
    • The paper clip on the toolbar allows you to attach files to the email.
