Configuring Netscape Messenger 4.0x
Netscape Messenger is the email client which is included with
Netscape Communicator 4.0x. It has basic features that most email programs
use, and has a very simple interface which many people like. In order
to launch the program from within Netscape Communicator click on
Communicator menu and click on Messenger Mailbox. The
main Netscape Messenger window appears:
Netscape Messenger gives you 4 different areas listed vertically
by default. The toolbar allows you to do all the basic functions
for email, while the current email box you are viewing appears directly
below that. Clicking on it will give you the entire list of available
boxes:
Below this you have the message header listing, and even below
this you have the message body.
- To configure, click on Edit in the menu and click on Preferences at the bottom:
The Mail & Groups category just lets you customize how messages
are displayed on your system, mainly personal preference. Double-clicking
brings up the sub categories (the [+] indicates it is an expandable branch,
clicking on it also will expand it).
- Click on the Identity sub category:
- Here is where you can enter your contact information for email (name,
email, return address...)
- Click on the Mail Server sub category to configure for getting email from your Mondenet account
- Here is where you would enter the mail server information (username, POP3 and SMTP servers).
- To compose a new message, click on the New Msg button
on the main toolbar:
- Some additional tools are available when composing your messages.
- Spelling is on the toolbar, as well as the ability to change
the fonts, justification, etc.
- Clicking on the paper clip allows you to add file attachments (there
are two, one labeled Attach and the second tab on the addressee
section).
- The third icon in the addressee section, which appears as note paper
with 3 check marks, gives you some additional options:
- Here you can request a Return Receipt, change the Priority,
and also modify the encoding message for attachments.
- And in the large blank area below, you type your message.
