Publishing your webpage with Netscape Composer

Netscape 3 (Navigator) Gold, and most versions of Netscape 4 (Communicator) include a Composer to create, edit and upload your webpages. In order to upload your pages (or "publish"):

  1. click on File
  2. select Publish
The following window will open (or a dialogue that is quite similar) asking for certain settings.
  3. Enter the title you want for your page.
  4. Enter the name for the file. The main page must be called "index.html" or the webpage will not appear normally. Any page this home-page links to can be called page2.htm or resume.html, et cetera. These file names are case sensitive.
The next part is where you enter the FTP host name and directory, as well as your log-in.
  5. The URL is composed as follows: protocol://ftpserver.ext/dir/username/www
  6. Since you are tranferring files with FTP and not your browser, you will use "ftp://" (and not http://).
    • The host name of your webpage is www.mondenet.com.
    • Your directory is /home/username (unless we host your domain).
    • Your www or web directory is /public_html.
  7. Enter your username and the password.
  8. Include whatever files are required for the page to appear.
These same settings should work in other HTML editors. Front-page extentions for WebPost are not supported.

Uploading your webpage with Netscape

Netcape also uses FTP, and you can you that to upload your files. To upload your file to "http://www.mondenet.com/~username" you must access the URL and login. The site is reached by entering the protocol, login with your full email address, followed by your webpage directory. Enter the location as "ftp://username@mondenet.com/home/username" (unless we host your domain).

You will be asked for your password, and then given the contents of your directory.

Double click on the link "public_html" and you will be entered into your www directory.
Once there, click on File and select Upload file...
This will give you a window to browse for your files.
Browse your drive for the folder containing your web files. They can be then uploaded one at a time. Files cannot be deleted this way.
