mIRC 5.0 Setup

These instructions are for mIRC 5.0, but they will also be helpful with earlier versions. Once mIRC is configured with these instructions, refer to the mIRC help file for help with using mIRC and the Internet Relay Chat network.

  1. Choose Setup from the File menu
  2. Click the Server tab
    • Use the dropdown list at the top of the screen to set the default IRC server.
      • Full Name : your real name (optional)
      • E-Mail Address : your email address (optional)
      • Nickname : your IRC handle
      • Alternative : your second IRC handle, in case the first one is in use
  3. Click the Local Info tab
    • Leave the Local Host and IP Address blank. mIRC will fill in this information automatically.
    • Set Method to Normal.
  4. Click the Options tab
    • The important setting in this window is the Default Port, which should be set to 6667. The other options can be set to your personal preference.

  5. Click the Identd tab
    • Some IRC servers use Identd for authentication. If Identd isn't set, you will not be able to connect to these servers.

  6. Click OK to save changes
    • You can connect to IRC by choosing Connect from the File menu. For more information, explore the Help menu.
