Setting up Config PPP
Open the ConfigPPP control panel. You will find it by choosingControl Panels from the Apple menu:
- The Port Name menu should be set to the name of the port towhich your modem is attached. In most cases, this is the Modem Port, but it may be the Printer Port for some Powerbooks with internalmodems.
- The Idle Timeout should be set to None. This is how muchidle time is allowed to pass before you are automatically logged off.
- The Echo Interval should be set to Off.
- The PPP Server option allows you to have multiple PPP setups,in this example, we are configuring ConfigPPP for Mondenet.
- Click on Config to continue ...
- The PPP Server Name should be the name of the service you arecalling. In this case, it is set to Mondenet. The Port Speedshould be set one setting higher than the actual modem speed, for example; 14.4kmodems this should be 19200, 28.8k modems this should be 38400, etc.
- The Flow Control setting should be set to CTS & RTS (DTR)for most modems, although CTS Only is required in some instances, commonly for Global Village modems.
- In most cases, you should use Tone Dial, although if you havean older modem or your phone line is not set up for tone dialing, you willneed to use Pulse Dialing.
- The Phone Number setting is the phone number you wish to dial.
- v34 modem (33.6K or less): 5262828
- v90 modem (56K): 6880705
- The Modem Init. setting depends on the type of modem you have, most commonly at&f or the default.
- The Modem Connect Timeout should be set to 90 seconds.
- Next click on LCP Options...
- All of these options are fine here set to default, other than Authentication(PAP), which should have both Want and Will selectedunder Remote. If the settings here are incorrect, simply click onDefault settings, and then make the one modification outlined above.
- Now click on OK, and then Connect Script...
- This option is for adding a connect script. There is no need for this,as Mondenet uses PAP from Authentication (below), which ismuch more reliable, so set everything to Out and the rest on thispage is blank.
- Now click on OK, and then Authentication...
- Enter your username and password. The password is case sensitive.
- Now click on OK, and then IPCP Options...
- The defaults here are fine, again simply click on Default settingsto restore this to its default setting.
- Click on OK, and then click on DONE in PPP server configuration.
- You have now configured your connection for Mondenet.
